Investigation of Mass-Transfer Performance for Biodiesel Reaction in Microchannel Reactor using Volume-of-Fluid with Species-Transport Model

A microchannel reactor improves the overall mass and heat transfer as compared with a conventional reactor. This is attributed to creation of high area-to-volume ratio enhanced mixing due presence vortices inside slug. In this paper, mass-transfer performance was studied using cross-junction microchannel. Subsequently, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method used observe oil concentration contour slug volume-of-fluid (VOF) species-transport model. Based on simulation results, accumulated in both slug’s rear front regions. Hence, four resulted dead zones at low-oil-concentration region. Furthermore, it has been observed that an optimum flow rate required achieve transfer. higher measured during formation low regime long residence time. contrast, reported slug-moving stage velocity, resulting forming moving substantially influenced rates, respectively.
